NEW RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION IN OCTOBER 2007
The U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development jointly announced the following new residential
construction statistics for October 2007:
BUILDING PERMITS
Privately-owned housing units authorized by building permits in October were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,178,000.
This is 6.6 percent (±1.3%) below the revised September rate of 1,261,000 and is 24.5 percent (±1.4%) below the revised October
2006 estimate of 1,560,000.
Single-family authorizations in October were at a rate of 807,000; this is 8.0 percent (±1.3%) below the September figure of 877,000.
Authorizations of units in buildings with five units or more were at a rate of 330,000 in October.
HOUSING STARTS
Privately-owned housing starts in October were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,229,000. This is 3.0 percent (±10.6%)*
above the revised September estimate of 1,193,000, but is 16.4 percent (±8.0%) below the revised October 2006 rate of 1,470,000.
Single-family housing starts in October were at a rate of 884,000; this is 7.3 percent (±10.1%)* below the September figure of
954,000. The October rate for units in buildings with five units or more was 312,000.
HOUSING COMPLETIONS
Privately-owned housing completions in October were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,436,000. This is 1.9 percent (±8.9%)*
above the revised September estimate of 1,409,000, but is 25.2 percent (±6.7%) below the revised October 2006 rate of 1,919,000.
Single-family housing completions in October were at a rate of 1,159,000; this is 2.8 percent (±8.9%)* above the September figure of
1,127,000. The October rate for units in buildings with five units or more was 247,000.
